In this article, I will take you through the steps to install brave browser on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa). Brave is a free and open source, fast, private and secure web browser developed by Brave Software, Inc. based on the Chromium web browser. But it is different from the Chrome web browser in the sense that it is more secure and private browser which secures all the user data and does not really allow anyone to track the user movement over the Internet. It also has lots of other security and protection features that makes it one of the safest browser to use.

How to Install Brave Browser on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa)

Step 1: Prerequisites
a) You should have a running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Server.
b) You should have sudo or root access to run privileged commands.
c) You should have apt or apt-get and curl utility available in your System.
Step 2: Update Your Server
Before going through the steps to install brave browser on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, you need to first update and then if required upgrade installed packages using sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade command as shown below.

Step 3: Download GPG Key
You have to visit the official website and download the GPG Key using below curl command. This will allow you to check the integrity of the package.

Step 4: Add Repo
Next step is to add the repo from where brave-browser package can be easily downloaded and installed using apt package manager. To add, you just need to use below echo command.

Step 5: Install Brave Browser
After adding the repo, you need to update the package cache by using sudo apt update command as shown below.

Then install the package from added repo by using sudo apt install brave-browser command as shown below. This will download and install the package along with all its dependencies.

Step 6: Verify Installation
After successful installation, you can verify the installed files by using dpkg -L brave-browser command as shown below.

Step 7: Launch Brave Browser
Go to Activities and search brave in the search box as shown below. Once it shows up, tap on it to open.
When you open it for the first time, you will see below dialog box asking to set Brave as default browser or you can click on Maybe later to set it later.
Then you will see the browser to be opened like below. This confirms that Brave Browser is installed successfully in your System.
Step 8: Uninstall Brave Browser
Once you are done using Brave Browser, you can choose uninstall it from the System by using sudo apt remove brave-browser command as shown below. However, you need to be very careful in running below command. Sometimes, it might end up in removing some packages which are used by some other active running application in your System. This could result into a disaster for systems like critical or production systems.
